2006 250 e-tec thermistats
I would like some suggestions to remove the caps that hold the t-stats in place. I have a 2006 E-Tec 250. The over heat alarms every now and then on a slow putter. I turn it off raise it then lower it and it will be fine for a few more days. The E-tec guy stated it was probably the t-stats but I can not get the caps off to change them. I am almost rounding the aluminum nut with a 6 point socket and do not want to damage the head. The water pump, pumps well and there is no problem at high rpms.
Thanks, Paul

Use a 6point 1 1/2" socket and a breaker bar. After a few revolutions, spray a penentrating oil under the cap and o-ring to help the rest of the removal. In some cases, the hex will shear off and you have to carefully chisel the plastic out of the cylinder head. Clean all the salt and use plenty of Triple-Guard grease on the threads and o-ring.

I will not damage the head? I would hate to crack it. I used a 6 point on the small nut. Thanks, Paul
