Would this cam work???
Im been looking for a better cam for my boat, and I was wondering if this one would work well? Would this one work with out changing the valve springs? it dosent have to much lift to it so it seems like it would work.
I have no experience with cams so that is why I am asking

I would change springs and all. I changed a cam once that would fit under the springs only to find out the springs were to light, probably worn out. The end result was a total tear down to clean metal from the cam lobe and lifter out of the motor. As a rule I dont run a flat tappet cam any more and always use the springs recomended buy the manufacture. Then take it to someone you trust to set it up right, in my openion this is not a bolt and go area. Just My 02, change it to roller cam, less BS to worry about

ALWAYS put the complete cam and kit in as a unit. The parts are matched to each other in hardness, spring tension, spring rate, coil bind and so on. Mixing cam and valve train components is inviting trouble.

then I would make sure the seat pressure on the valves is correct and the springs dont stack at full lift If thats OK you should be good to go.
Another thought. what compression are you running? make sure you dont over cam a low compression motor. They sound good at idle but a lot of times hurts the top end performance.OHBA Growth Trough Participation

The reason you can't go by seat pressure alone to set up a cam is that different cams require springs with different spring rate. One spring rate set at 135.lb seat pressure can give 275 lb. open pressure and the next one set at 135 lb seat pressure can give 425 lb open pressure. Check BOTH closed and open spring pressure at the exact lift of the cam if you're going to mix parts.

I think the compression is around 9:1 or so
Where can I get a matched set?

Comp has complete kits , called "K" kits but buy them through jeggs or summit or even e bay you will get them a lot cheeper than you will dirrect from comp.
Other cams that dont come in kits will have the componant lits on the cam card so you can set it up with the right parts.
Most recomend a 110 lobe center for jets. Happy hunting.OHBA Growth Trough Participation

The ISKY-396292 is not even a marine grind, Propper set up is a must today, the lack of Zinc in the oils is unforgiving to say the least....
