merc Lower unit gear ratio
I currently have a 3 liter 1.75 ratio lower unit on a light 19 foot
bass boat( about 1100 lbs) I am swinging a 25 pitch yamaha v max prop
at 6000. If I get a 1.62 lower unit will I be able to swing a bigger
prop. I have a 29 yamaha t1 that I would like to put on it or maybe
even more pitch in the future. I am thinking about getting a lower unit
from sterndrive becuase mine is leaking oil everywhere and I didn't
know if I should get the 1.62
Thanks

No, the lower you go with the ratio number, the closer you get to 1:1, if you drop from a 1.75 to a 1.62, you will need less pitch to stay at 6000

i am not an expert but if you change it 1.62 ratio and your engine have the power to reach the same RPM you will gain more speed.
