1998 225 PM Ticking Sound
Went out a couple of days ago . The motor ran fine all day Then all of a sudden it made a sound like I hit something . then a few minutes later it started making a clicking and knocking sound on the upper end. The motor will start and will idle , then it will start that sound. Don`t know if a reed ,rod ,piston came loose. Just wanted an idea on what it might be. So that I can have a yard sale to pay for all the $ it`s going to cost. Thanks for any ideas.

Welcome to Scream and Fly!! You'll experience a wealth of knowledge among many other things. Here's my take based on what you described.
Any visable damage to the lower or Prop in that it sounded like you hit something?
First thing I would do is check the lower/prop for damage. If no damage, remove the plugs & rotate the crank. If everything rotates ok I would do a compression and or leakdown. I would also Pop the heads and take a look see for starters.
Keep us posted on what you find.

No power loss. I did restart it when I finally got back to the ramp about 3 hrs later with the trolling motor. It started fine and ran for about 20 seconds , then it started making a noise.

Might pull the flywheel and take a look under it and make sure the magnets are intact with no cracks... Also make sure nothing is contacting the stator so check the top bearing for play...
