It should run that with an xr-4 i'm thinking. Many 17ft skeeters/nitro's run mid 60's with tm's,gear etc with a 24p and a xr-4. Your boat should be lighter/able to set up better I would think.

    Hell even in 18.5 bb's running 65 isn't unheard of with a 150.

For sure, i've never run a xr-4 and i know it's a different block but when my xr-2 was stock or still close to stock it was much happier a little over 6 than at 5.5k as far as propping goes.

What prop did you get the fastest mp with at 5500?? the 24? you said you tried a 24,26 and going to a 22? Have you tried a 23, or do they make that pitch in the type you are running?

Something else might not be right though, that motor should push a 24 to 6, mine did before the work.

I'm guessing you have tried jack plate heights already with the 24??

Good, tune, timing , fuel etc?? Mine wouldn't rap out on exxon gas for some reason or another, it liked the old citgo performer the best(the old 94 octane). anything else and i had to throw in a gallon of c16 or a can of octane booster to get it to run right.

    Magnum blowover

I WAS THERE THAT DAY AT CRYSTAL RIVER...SO WAS THE GUYS WIFE/KIDS/ AND PARENTS, AS I REMEMBER.
HIS BOAT WAS CLEAN. rigged beautifuly....AND IT GOT HIM..AT THE FINISH LINE.

andy might remember, after a 2 or 3 hour wait the guys family said continue the drags, he would have wanted you racers .... his other family to race out the rest of the day

Well I was the next class called and I had a touchy little boat......a 12 footer with a 70 evinrude/open exhaust/ nitrous oxide.......82 mph and flat out about 600 feet down the track

the protocal at crystal river was to go down track and turn around in a little lake off to the right, and come back to the starting line..

I had run the boat 25 -20 times at the drags..
..but when I came past the exact spot of the magnum missles blowover....
..I stuffed the bow for the very first time...it was like there was a pothole in the canal,
and the little boat pulled thru and I ran back to the rope

....I held the rope and made the run and had a feeling like I never had before....or since..
..I know where a missle sits in my friends driveway....
    ..
150 hp was ok...the boat is a cool example of old school, and that particular boat design was fast at the time...
..and every story you hear about it should be something you listen to and respect it for what it is and what it is when you are holding on to the wheel

Rabcos and Magnums aren't exactly the same. There were at least 2 Magnum molds and only one was used for the Rabco ... and they have different decks. The Mags have an open front deck and the Rabco and other clones have closed decks.

Alan Brown who worked at Magnum and built the Missiles claims there were only 30 made ... but they sure do pop up here on Screamandfly often. I am certain we have seen at least 15 different Magnum Missiles on Screamandfly and I know of 2 or 3 in MD that have not been on the internet.

If there are only 30, they sure do change hands often.

    Magnum

Sounds like a HOARDER WITH CLASS... the double bubble deck MAGNUM was a cool v-bottom boat...I think they made less of those than the MISSLE...
