Hi all, 12 years on and same question…. What oil for the 300x, 2005 model, OT999451. AUSTRALIA.
Merc Premium Plus is liquid gold. No-one in the country has it (incl Merc dealers), and if they do they will not freight it due to dangerous good rules.
So I am looking for a tried and true alternative that is obtainable in Australia. Earlier in this thread Penzoil came up… nope, not Australian unfortunately.
HELP!!!

I guess we have to ask what oils ARE available in Aus? Might be able to help with best available.

Many thanks, I’ll accumulate a list - any Aussies please feel free to add…. Everyone must be using something and not have 20ltrs of Merc Premium Plus stashed away lol
Castrol - I have been using this on my 3ltr’s (225EFI) as premix. Acacdotally good, but that’s coming from unknown/ un qualified sources

Royal Purple - I know nothing about

Edit: just had a chat to Royal Purple tech. It’s being used in just about every mega high performance outboard in Australia, racing or not. Fine for premix or oil injection.

You can use that opti oil as a premix has I just use it 40:1 and it’s smokeless

I should conclude this thread. Ended up finding the Quicksilver Premium Plus oil which I will use. The Royal Purple is the cost of liquid gold lol.
Now to decide on pre-mix or not. I read the factory metering is good for preventing plugs fouling at lower rpm? Being a 80% social ski boat with 20% outright speed days, thinking keeping the oil injection is a better option.
But, always been sceptical on oil injection. At least with premix you know if it has fuel it has oil!
