anyone had to trouble shoot their install as my new autometer procomp just sits at at 30mph. It goes full right, then full left, then sits at 70mph for a second then drops to 30 and sits there

Sometimes they take quite a while to acquire a satellite. Leave it on for an hour and see if it goes to zero. It sounds like it's seeing the GPS receiver but not getting the speed data. Probably not a wiring problem.

I thought about that after I sent the response. When I test antennas after repairing them, I have to put them on a stick out the window of my shop because the roof blocks the signal. Mine is under the deck but may be a thinner deck. I'm sure Kevlar or any metal would block it.

I have a Gaffrig digital speedo w/recall and the battery went bad in the antenna. While looking for a new antenna I came across this thread. So I bought a Garmin 19x HVS. I hooked it up red to power, orange and black to ground and gray to the white wire on my speedo. I'm getting the letters" nsat" on the display. I'm guessing this means "no satellite"? I'm pretty sure it's communicating because if I disconnect the gray the display reads "ndat" and I'm thinking that means "no data". The speedo came with the boat and has 5/06 on the back. What am I doing wrong?

It may take some time to lock in on enough satellites to come up. If it has a clear view to the sky and doesn't lock on in 15 minutes then my guess would be a data rate or protocol problem. I have never worked on the digital type so not sure what they expect to see for data.

Thanks for the reply I will leave it on longer to make sure it sees satellites also with the orange wire if the antenna is being used for a speedo it always goes to ground right?

Yes, orange is the enable wire and has to be connected to ground to get a data stream out.

It works! It came with a resistor that I had to put between the orange wire and ground.
Thanks for the info! This is a great thread.

I have one of the Lavorsi speedos that would have used an antenna with a battery (have pics of the back wire plugs under "misc parts for sale" on this sight. Do you happen to have one of the Lavorsi antennas available that you have repaired (installed new battery)? I am trying to sell the speedo but if I don't I will probably keep it.

I just found one of these on ebay for a bid of 10.50 which I won. I needed a new antenna for my Raytheon 425 chart plotter. Well I hooked it up the same way you would for a speedo and my chart plotter is back in action. I cant believe they discontinued these. What a shame.

Teleflex makes one that will work. It can be mounted under the deck. Here is a couple links. Any of the marinas can get it for you.
