I bought a Autometer 5 years ago it has a 3 prong plug in the back. Would you guys know if the garmin receiver would work with the Autometer GPS?
I have an order in for a GPS receiver that is going to cost a fortune. The Garmin is half the price! would like to cancel and get one of these1976 Challenger I/O

If it is NMEA-0813 input it should work fine. I am pretty sure that Gaffrig, Livorsi, Autometer, Beede all use the same input. Call autometer and ask if it is NMEA-0813 compliant.

I posted this on the other GPS antenna thread,,, figured to vent here a bit...... this really sucks.

I'm in the same 'boat'........ mine is dead too.
It's a damn shame that Lavorsi does not think twice about selling you a friggin' POS head unit that they know good and well is gonna cause trouble for the consumer down the road. And now they don't even offer to help out once loyal customers with the replacement anymore.
Lemme' guess,,,,, 3-4 years after the GPS speedo heads were so popular and we all had to go out and buy all new LAVORSI stuff in an effort to support LAVORSI during the breakup with Gaffrig.........suddenly Mike finds out they have to spend money on fixing defective or poorly designed components.... is that when Livorsi determined to screw the loyal consumers here and discontinue the replacement / re-calibrate services ? ? ?
Apparently they care only about the sale and no longer give a shti about their customers. How's that for a supporting 'Vendor" service here......... Kinda like not giving a 'puck' for us huh??Russ Benton

I'd like to thank you for your advice on the Garmin GPS. We purchased one and hooked it up and it works great. It can run two Speedo's. It's nice when one boater can help another. Thanks

Thanks for the info on this, works great, mounted it under deck, thought it might be a issue but works fine. Best part, no having to replace any batteries.

Where and how do you hook the antenna to the speedo? I havent seen the same 3 prong plug on any of the cables i've looked at. My gauge didnt come with the male end, so how do they connect?

Well
I ordered the same gauge in 0-100 for $129 So I should only be in this for $240. Which is a lot less expensive than any kit I saw out there. Im sure once I see the back of the gauge I will figure it out and post on it. I found these instructions online for wiring the autometer guage. Did yours come with the plugs for the back of the gauge? I was thinking it was just going to be studs on the back of the gauge.

not positive about this gps antenna, but the livorsi antenna must be spliced(butt connected) to the gps speedo. there is a plug on the back of the speedo but every livorsi antenna i have seen does not have that male end of the connector. its 3 wires no big deal just a little bit of a pita because the wires are so dam small. when i rerigged my boat with autometers lst year this is what i ended up doing, luckily one of my friens had very very small butt connectors and he gave me a few

The gauge has a plug with 6 pins, 3 for the power and 3 for the recall, then there is a small plug with about 4" of wire for the gps, it has a + and a - and a wire for the antenna. No big deal to hook up but I havent seen a antenna with the same plug. I know you can order a antenna from the same place I ordered the gauges put its 250-300$, that one might come with the same plug but from what I've read you use one from garmin.

Hey
This gps has no end connector so it should work fine with the Autometer. The only connection on the wire is on the antenna end. Sounds like once I hook the red, black, white and orange up its plug and play. We shall see.
This is how the Garmin GPS comes for $104 from GPS City. Snow Man not included.

Do you have to cut the plug off the wires on the gauge?
