My Garmin 478 has two NMEA 0183 data ouput wires (blue and purple), so I'm going to connect one of the output wire to the S terminal on the back of my Livorsi gauge...that would save me some cash. I'll also have to remember to set the baud rate to 4800 and the antenna to 0183.

I connected my Livorsi speedometer to my Garmin 478, set the baud rate to 4800 and it worked!

On the main menu page (for Garmin GPSmap 478), scroll down to setup, then select Interface, set the serial data format to "NMEA In/NMEA out" then set the baud rate to 4800 from the pull down menu (other options are 1200, 2800 or 9600).

All you need to do is order the antenna and hook up 4 wires and you are good to go.

I took my first run of the season today and have the same problem. Does anyone have any photos to help visualize the issue? I unscrewed my white cap on the puck, but need to look a lot closer. Annoying as the water was flat !!

Instructions say NOTE The orange (assessory on) wire is used when wiring the GPS 17x to a Garmin Chartplotter, or other NMEA 0183 devise that has a defined accessory signal wire. If you are wiring the GPS 17x to a device that does not have a accessory signal wire, the orange wire from the GPS17x should be connected to GROUND.

This is on page 5 of the instructions. Hope this helps. Mine did not work until I did this. Black and orange to ground

Mine came the other day but I haven't had time to install. Compared to this, the Lavorsi antenna should cost about $25
