so, the moral of the story is....................

high perf blocks have a bit different water configuration with it's poppet and in the configuration it includes the one piece cowl pan (to block the direct dump triangular hole) diverters under the heads to hold and direct water around the cylinders and the second poppet hole is blocked off from the factory to keep the water from going into the main cavity and washers in the thermostat areas to relieve pressure yet hold enough to cool the motor correctly

greg, US-1, raceman, jay please correct where i have gone wrong here!!

I hope I'm not asking for too much but...

Can you show pics of where the diverters go and what they look like? I'm getting excited because I think I'm figuring this out! Doesn't take much.

    Skip please help me!!

I have a 93' 200pm modified it, exhaust chest, port heights, opened exhaust plates to match tuner, and last mod may have burned it up after break-in. I blocked the fitting to go to the tuner and installed pyrometer(filled in cavity, dry stacking tuner i think) and ran a hose off each head out with therm's in and popet valve in stock form. Also only 1 divert. on each side. I will be installing another on each side when i put it backtogether.

I know burned up the motor due to cooling cause water wouldn't run out of the piss holes, just trickle, but had 25-30#'s pres, and the #5 piston siezed and was not detonated but had grayish look on all pistons and more so on #5 of corse.

if i do as you said, mod popet cover to dump out and join head dumps to go out, and i install 1/8 washers, i would have to block off the top of block where the popet dumps now right?

please explain what i might have done wrong to burn up my motor, and tell me what i might have to look for.

Thanks for all the info ya'll gave so for, I really appreciate it.
You always take time to do the pic. diagrams, and are very patient with our ignorance.

    Thanks again.

    pirogue,

sounds lean, no water at the piss tube at an idle can be alot of things, waterpump-base and impeller, brass water tube, water tube bushins in pump and midplate, unknown trash in the cooling system somewhere, wrong gaskets stuff like that

this stuff aint easy over a computer to diagnose

gotta head to work i'll check back in a while

    Question Skip...........

Are you sure those diverters are in the correct spots? I have always put them at 11:00 Port and 1:00 starboard like Mercury does them, not next to the exhaust divider but on the outer side of the block.

so honestly i dont know thats is the way i have always done them so, now i wonder whats right or wrong or if it's indifferent??? good point though!!

    Two holed nose cone,not CLE

I ran a borrowed L/U this weekend , don't know if pump is old,but right back to the low pressure situation, just like the two holed CLE I was running before. The Bobs cone was the one showing so much pressure (25-30) and so cold of a temp (120). Now I have port at 150 degrees and STB. at 125 degrees.

    Go figgure.

check the waterpump case halves with the pump installed on the lower by blowing air into the brass tube hole and soapy water on the pump, if the case halves are leaking and bleeding off pressure you will see bubbles at the case half seal

What size hose do you use for the diverters, 5/16" or 3/8"?
