check valve on vap sep
the brass checkvalve on the bottom of the vapor sep. was stopped up due to sitting up for a long time. i cleaned it up with solvent and pic. i now can blow and suck without the check valve working. should the valve only be open one way or is it suppose to be open both ways. this is on 200merc

If a check valve is open both ways, then it's no longer a check valve, but just a fitting.

If its on the bottom of the vst it is just a drain valve to get rid of crap just like you did. I like to turn the ignition on for just a second with the plug out so that the fuel pump helps clean out any other crap that might be in there. That way you can make sure it still works. Mine was frozen up from sitting and needed a little tlc.
