    50hp tohatsu 15" parts/mods

    hey all.. Great forum
Im from australia and currently got a D2 50hp tohatsu 2 stroke motor that soon ish i am planning on doing a rebuild.. I am starting to get a knocking sound at idle and full rpm as I need replace the bearings.. So i was thinking i want to up the motor a bit and get some performance parts for it instead of replacing most the stuff with original parts.. BTW motor is on a Caesar thundercat.

I am having trouble finding Performance parts for the 50 tohei in aussie land.. Can someone help me source some?? Is there a 1 stop shop that i could ship over from US?
I have read through the mod50 threads but still cannot source some things..

Also have herd that some 70 carbs bolt straight onto the 50 block Or with minor modifications?? is this true? I Would like to go bigger and better quality parts, If that makes sense?

Still got lots of questions to ask but im sure this will keep you busy

    Cheers, airtime

I had built several Earlier model tohatsu's about 20 years ago.All were of the 40-50 hp 3 cylinder block, and ran 55+knots on a lite rig appx 450#. I still have quite a few parts including new crankcases, pistons and rings. Ialso have the prop that we ran, If you are interested in anything let me know. The dual swirl combustion chamber motor responds well to carbs and compression. then proceed to time and area. thanks Martin

    thanks mate,
Are these the complete custom lowerunit/midsection/transom bracket bass motors?? I think i have seen a few pics.. They look brilliant but I am really only looking at modding the power head/exhaust.

Also taking the silencer off will it do much different or just give that more better noise??? I have seen a few people do it but won't the water tube get really hot? Exposed Directly next to the tuner without some surrounding cover?

    cheers.

Don't take the exaust can out just cut the bottom off were the tuner sticks out a few inches and wether it's a 50 or not make sure it has a 50 tuner in it the late model 50s came with the 40 tuner don't know why drill some1 1/16 holes through the gear case were it sqizes the exaust down right under the tuner boysen reed are a must , do yourself a favor and weld the crank jornals while it's out match port the exaust port top and bottom to the cast and to the head 120 thousandths it seems to make them run well you might find somone that has better porting than me I like mercs oh don't forget the rev limiter

    cheers mate,
Since i started the thread i Havnt done much performance wise, Just carbon reeds, got the 50hp D1 exhaust, Drilled the holes in the exhaust bit, rev limiters cut, For the cost of them few mods it is definately worth it.. Gained about 4 - 5km top end speed and a bit more crisp acceleration.

I have never heard of cutting the starting ring before - il look into it thanks

I think thats all the basic hp mods covered ??

    thanks - airtime
