Need Help <>3.0L Oil Pump Bushing/Shaft & Gear Removal

Guy's, I'm stumped and need help...........

3.0L 250 EFI, trying to pull the bronze bushing, oil pump shaft/gear out of the block since I've gone to 100% pre-mix, but I can't get the darn thing to come out. I've tried duck bill pliers, pulling while twisting left, small vise grips, etc. it just won't budge................HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

Am I missing something here or is there a better way to pull it all out ??????

    Thanks,

    Gary

Have you tried to move the flywheel with one hand, and pull the gear out with the other?

When I took the gear out of your old motor it came right out like I described. Not sure why you are having trouble with this one.

Yep, tried that one too. I'm gonna try to warm up the block with my heat gun this weekend and see what that does.Everybody else I've spoken to has been telling me to take it out (you included), but Eric Simon told me to leave it in. So I'm a little confused right now.

If it stays in I would think that either the pump stays too (without the plumbing) because of the stack up between the pump shaft, worm gear and the thurst washer that keeps it all in a "Happy Place" but there would be no source of lube for the pump shaft since the oil has been removed ???????????

When you say "You left yours in", did you just leave the bushing and shaft and put a cover plate over the mount hole, or use a Merc kit or did you leave the pump on too without the plumbing........

    Thx,

    UPDATE:
Just and FYI for the future if anyone is interested, Spoke to Eric Simon and he said the samething, "JUST LEAVE IT IN" and cap off the oil pump mounting pad on the block.

    Thanks HP & Eric.......

Need Help <>3.0L Oil Pump Bushing/Shaft & Gear Removal

I filled the bushing with JB Weld and reinstalled it.. Then fit a small washer between the bushing and the oil block-off plate so the bushing couldn't move in the bore. The main reason I reinstalled the bushing was.........there was another post about the extra volume without the bushing? But later I found the guys were talking about a 2.5 not a 3.0L. By that time done was done. No harm no foul the way I see-it Sorry I didn't get back to ya sooner

With that being said, I assume you pulled out the gear/shaft and filled the shaft hole in the bushing w/ JB Weld and reinstalled the bushing ????????

Yes, that is exactly what I did Did you have trouble removing the bushing from your motor? Mine wasn't stuck but it didn't just pull out of the bore either. It took a little time to work it out with some help from liquid wrench. Hope this helped...........

Mine isn't coming out period, it's in there good. Tried everything, even heated up the block, still nothing. I'll have to cut the bushing out to pull the gear.

Need Help <>3.0L Oil Pump Bushing/Shaft & Gear Removal

Gary, the only thing I could imagine holding the bushing would be the crank gear There has got to be some other reason. That bushing may have a burr on the opposite end........why I don't know
Did you turn the flywheel while pulling on the bushing? I would say to try an easy-out but the gear is still in the bore...............

2/3's of the bushing is still in the block, 1/3 was broken off by me while trying to remove it using all methods possible, same with the shaft 1/3 of it is gone as well. I have tried the turning the flywheel while pulling method too with no success either. I'm making a special cutter that will cut the bushing out using the shaft as a pilot.

I will prevail on getting that damm bushing and gear out one way or another..........

Yep, I've hit the bottom of the barrel for things to try, short of sticking a wad of C4 on it..............LOL. I'm already working on making a cutter head and hope to start make'n chips next weekend.
