If your gonna use a 100 % Syn for recreational use I choose Penn...Quality,price and availability IMO can't beat it..

Engine parts look great after many hours of service with the Pen blends OR 100% syn..

I have always used Penn synthetic in my 260, when Jay did my rebuild he called me and asked what oil I was using, then told me not to change because the motor was so clean when he took it apart.

You can pick it up at Walmart when you pick up the beer for the trip, I'm a "Simple Man" so it easy to find, don't have to order it, the price is not bad compared to the other brands.

I'm sure there are some Guru's on here that will want to argue the point but I have been well satisfied with the result while running Penn 100% and don't intend to change. Try it you will like it! jimmy

I have to agree with Jay, I got over 1000 hours on my first Promax Powerhead running Penzoil synthetic blend through the stock oil injection system. I now have over 500 hours on my new powerhead. My exhaust tuner has only has a black stain on it and will not get your hand dirty.
There might be something better out there but I'm not planning on experimenting....

Jay- what do you think of the new Mercury Quicksilver Synthetic? Any idea what brand it actually is?

Also, didn't Penzoil relabel their 100% Synthetic?

    Thx-

I ran Merc Opti oil in my 225 Opti and ate a compressor bearing at about 100 hours. Switched to Merc Premium Plus and ate another compressor at about 160 hours. Switches to Pennzoil Premium Plus and now have gone another 200 hours without a failure. Optis have very dirty/sooty prop hubs and that got much better when I switched to Pennzoil. When it startes to build up now I can just rinse it clean with a hose.

Sams Club has a deal on Pennzoil Premium Plus for $7 or $8 a jug from time to time. I just talked someone who said they have it now at the Pensacoloa store so others may have it also.

I agree with the Pennzoil. I think they just changed it from "100% Synthetic" to just "Full Synthetic".

Man I used to run Penn in my skidoo sled and had a real hard time keeping plugs clean. Sounds like it has improved in the last couple years..

Heard the same thing from conant when he pull our 280 apart with 220hrs on it said it looked brand new other then the locater pin that came out (02 280 w/ side pins???) asked what oil we use dad told him amsoil sabor... I race goped and use amsoil dominator pull motor apart every season and they look brand new still inside tops on the piston have very little carbon built up and never foul a plug... Same thing w/ all the sbc we have ran in the past just pulled 1 down few weeks ago that been running for 5yrs in a daily driver would think it had 10k miles on it not 100k... I agree on the penn 100% though its cheaper but not think its as good as amsoil guess thats why i became a amsoil dealer.... They make very good tranny fluid also..
