Another Jet Newbie!
I Just picked up an 81 apache jet with panther pump, where would I look on the pump to see what series or type it is so that I can look for aftermarket parts. Does anyone know if there are very many options with a panther pump. I did a lil googling and wasn't very impressed.

welcome newbie
congrats on the jet! here at screamandfly you will find some great info on your setup if you just search around or ask questions. some very very knowledgeable cruise through here.
i personally have not had a panther pump but have seen a couple. One thing i think i heard about the panther pump is that it is slightly larger than a berkley. im not sure if the impeller is larger but im pretty sure the nozzle is larger which would help hole shot. i believe the energizer kit and place diverter are both available for you.
Do research here and anywhere you can.
we all love to see pictures of the boats so please post!
welcome to screamandfly!

I think the Panther can run just fine, depending on how far you want to go on performance...I almost got one in a Rogers, but went a different boat direction. It seemed to run fine with that pump and I think around 625-650 HP.

wow. I think my boat only has about 400. So maybe I oughta start motor and then go jet. the guy I got it from was a mechanic and he built the motor himself. He had the jet gone through 2 years ago I think. When I took it out I got it up to about 50 and that was at 4500 rpm. The guy said he did this motor to stay under 6. So I have a little better Idea bout where I wanna go now. Airgap intake and 800 holley perhaps to start?

Welcome to the insanity. It only gets worse from here.
My son has a jet with a panther pump after having panther install their version of a jet-o-vater for something like $1200 he decided the next improvement would be an energizer kit (More money) My sugestion to you would be enjoy what you have, learn it inside out, then later on upgrade. I think most people here that have run Panther pumps will tell you they are not as efficient as a Berk, dominator, or an american turbin and cost more to hotrod. Also stayaway from the jet-o-vater the one my son has robed about 5mph and caused the pump to cavitate under heavy acceleration. they instaled what looks like a square piece of aluminum inside the nozzel so that you can change the angel of the water, but it don't raise the nozzel, choaking the flow from the pump. In my opinion a POS. I think I would go with the energizer kit If you insist on more performance out of a panther.
Hope I didn't discourage you
stay safe and have fun

Redding. Here I have Shasta lake and Whiskeytown lake just 20 minutes from my house. I also have the sacramento river to access as well. But thats only if I wanna push my poor luck, that's a nasty low water level river less the lakes are full. What's your boat?

I kinda figured as much with how little came up and how expensive the little that came up was. I figure 55 as a top out for it now. and once I get a season under my belt start saving for bigger better things! What're you running?

WOW your scoops alot bigger than mine! lol. That thing looks like a monster. And I was just gonna say creative ski hook. I actually have a hamms tap I wanna make the knob for my jet lever. Is it tough to pull those fiberglassed in tanks that some of our type boats have? I am quickly seeing that the twin 10 gallons that came in my boat aren't gonna get me too far if I keep tweaking my motor like I want to, so I can get responses like you do! lol
