    Coolant Cold Leak Explorer

OK, I'm bout at wits end.... Got a 95 Exploder, 4.0 pushrod motor. Have had coolant leak when it got cold out last winter and now it's back. Thought I had it fixed.

Replaced parts including radiator & cap, t-stat and lower hose & clamps. Seems like everytime it's appears to be the lower hose or radiator tank on LH side. Tonight I pulled the lower hose again and cleaned just a little bit of corrosion off the water pump.

I'll post pics if it comes back tomorrow, I'm sure it probably will. Any ideas????

99% sure it's the plastic tank meeting the aluminum core. It seems to push past the gasket when the system starts building heat/pressure. Once the radiator builds some heat and expands the leak stops. Kinda pisses me off since I just put a radiator in it last year. Gonna just take the lower seal off the cap during winter and put it back on during summer. Anyone wanna buy an Explorer? Bought an Excursion this past week....

You are probably correct. What brand radiator did you install? We have had our local NAPA change vendors just for this reason. High warranty failure rate on thank to core seal leaks. I have had several that did not make it a year.

I just removed the seal that pressurizes the rad. Not the one on the very top but the one that seals down in the neck. Don't really need pressure on it during winter. Will put a different cap on it in the summer.

Thanks for the help and advice guys!!!

Most radiators are lifetime warranty, check your receipt and just get another one. This happened to me, bought mine from Napa and it dripped out of the side tank only when cold! Tech at local Ford dealer.
