    Vintage oldsmobile

I have restored a 1955 Joe Mandella wood flat bottom v-drive. This boat was built with a 4 shaft v-drive, with twim props-twin rudders. I had to replace the complete bottom framing and plywood. The side frames are new. I have built a new wood deck. The boat matches the pictures I have from 1956. It will be powered by a 1955 Oldsmobile. The engine has been rebuilt. The boat is now ready for the painter. It will have the original 1956 Oldsmobile paint design, in turquois/white. I have contacted several people that are familar with the boat.

Glastron, do you know your HP on your motor?

The Kona was hand build in South Africa and was used for speed skiing years ago.

the guy i bought the headers from is a big olds guru and he said i should be somewhere in the 400-425 range i though it should be more because the stock berkely 455 was 330hp but he seems to know his olds motors my boat weighs about 2200 with a full load of fuel life jackets ect and with me one other guy and a cooler it ran 65 with the through the hull exhaust and performer manifold im taking it out tomaro with the new torker and headers im not gonna run it hard because i reused the intake gaskets i just wanna hear what it sounds like under a load with the headers before i take it back apart this winter but i am shooting for 75ish next year with a loader grate shoe and ride plate a fresh pump and the header and intake change

    Boatermike,

As far as I can see all the old school boats used 455 Olds engines, I wonder why?

HAMJET: The Olds was the cheapest bigblock engine available, with the Ford as #2. No other reason. TIMINATOR

Kona boats were built in Corona CA. in the early '70s. They merged with Aqua Craft Boat Co.

    Harlan,

Yes I know they were origanally build in Corona CA, but my boat was hand build here in South Africa from a mould that was made during the 1980's - Sorry to say but it was during our countries darkest days " Apartheid"

4 boats were build, 2 is still running, the other 2 is bare hulls. Amazingly all 4 survived. The mould is still around as far as I know. I will post pics of them later.

Here are the pics of the Kona's.

They all ran 455 Packajet Motors of which 2 are running. I have 3 of the original 4.
