Not so good on fuel. Tranny is weak link. Quite fun trucks with a good tune and a stronger (built) tranny.

mine gets 15 in town and 18 on the highway running 80, with the stock tune, but mine is a 2wd. AWDs are fuel hogs. 40k right now, needed to go to the dealer once to adjust the ignition switch. Other than that, no issues.
Trans is the strongest of any of the 4L60 derived units, but with 400lb/ft in front of it in a 4800lb truck, you need to use some common sense, especially when its hot and you're towing. Big tranny cooler is a must and will eliminate the issues that these trucks supposedly have. yeah I'm in Mass so def need AWD for the snow, i'm sure if you hammer it off every redlight the trannys will go much quicker, this would be a commuter/toy, don't plan to mod it but maybe a custom tune for mileage and power
I like the fact that i have only scene a couple of them around in my area, looking at them with between 20k - 40k on them, warrantied till 100k drivetrain so not to worried about the tranny

Talk to chris white at vector motorsports. He can hook you up with an extra ECM and PCM for around 200 bucks. keep the stock ones in case something pops and you'll be set. pcmforless.com (Alvin) does a helluva good tune for the SS trucks for a decent price, he also sells ready made trans coolers for the SS that are very nice pieces. Stay away from the Vette guys, alot of them try to dyno tune these trucks like a 3200lb car and the results have been known to cause issues.

Talked with my EFILive/Chevy guru and he's saying the same thing. Stay away from the Vette tunes. Also he thinks the trannys are safe unless you plan on spraying/boosting it.
Good luck!

My boss has one. Had a 67mm turbo on it until last week (selling the truck now). Stock trans! Made 480hp on high boost if memory serves. Never hurt the trans. He doesn't tow though. Went low 12's at 108 or so.

I don't think i'llbe towing the Scarab with it Keith, it's a pretty heavy boat then add a steel trailer and fuel i'd be pushing 9000lbs.. I keep the boat on a slip and it's stored there in the winter, boat ramp is under a 1/4 mile and theres always a buddy around with a real truck
Turbo?? hmmm sounds fun

My 06 AWD gets 13mpg local and as high as 18mpg on open road. Towing anywhere from 12-16mpg. And yep... it's a hot rod.

Have 62K on my '07 2wd TBSS. Got it last september with 35k or so... LOVE it!
I get 15 MPG city or hwy, doesn't matter... around 12 towing.
480HP N/A LS2 to the wheels is nothing to scoff at, you need a GREAT H/C/I package to make it reliable/streetable.
