polishing the pump
Hey
I am in the process of stripping off the paint on my berkley pump and polishing the aluminum any suggestions on this......
I have started taking it apart, it is the jf-a model..... so far all the small parts are off but I have left the bowl intact for now.... A grinder with a polish/cutting wheel makes this pump look awesome in a hurry... when I get all he old paint off with the grinders then I am planning on sanding 200,400,600,800,1000, 000 wool... then buff... let me know if you have any other ideas...... thanks Craig

I've polished alot of metal and your on the right track, just don't keep the polishing wheel on one spot too long it gets very hot and will warp aluminum!!! Also, don't forget to seal up your polished pieces to keep that shine.

you are on the right tract very labor intensive, agree with fearless i would coat it with something, in lieu of complete removeal to powder coat i have had good luck with a good quality clear to seal it and keep the shine. what ever is in our lake water here will fog the polished pump instantly if it is not cleared or coated with something.

I did the bowl on my Hondo and it looked great. Used Never Dull on it after each outing and it stayed nice.

I should be done with this sometime in 2027.....
Wow lots and lots of work........ any other ideas for speeding things up..... So far I have burned up 2 wire wheels and 2 (80) grit wheels... Used like a half gallon of aircraft stripper, not as great as it is made out to be......Craig

I used a da (dual action sander) on mine. Takes time to get thru the primer but it looks good done.
