Balsa sheet
Hello,
I'm looking to get Balsa sheets for the core resto of my hydrostream vision. The biggest sheet that i've found is 1/4" X 4" X 36" balsa sheets..
Is that the correct thing ?! Or balsa sheets exists in 4' x 8' sheets ?
Thanks

What are you using 1/4 " thick for ??
hull bottom need 3/4" thick at least
hull sides 3/8" to 1/2" depending on where it is !.
Walking areas on a deck 3/4" would be the minimum .
A transom any where from 3/4" TO 1 1/2" depending on the size of the motor and bracket and step back etc
1/4" thickness is no good for anything !!and not worth tht effort of puting it down !!
Sheet sizes are not to big ,36"X 24 " or somewhere near is about as big as they get . To hard to handle if they were big !

Hi !
No, I haven't finished to clean the hull yet.
I was just wondering what is the right thickness of the balsa that I should use.
For the transom replacement, I thought about using Marine Plywood ? Am I wrong with that ?!! There's no balsa on the transom ?
THanks

Hull as i said should be nothing less tha 3/4" balsa core , Transom should be plywood ,The more plys the better in the sheet you use . 3 layers of 5 ply x 1/2" and needs to be 110% stuck together properly with epoxy adhesive !. drill lots a holes in the sheets to let the pockets of air out and the glue ooze out the holes when its pressed together . Vac bag it on to a nice flat surface is the easyest and surest way of getting it stuck together . After a final trim , grind and sand Vac it into the back of the boat as well Thats even better to make sure theres no voids and air pockets between the outerskin and the wood for water to be able to get in sometime in the future .

Wow !! Thanks all for the good advices !!
For the transom, Can I use standard Plywood or Marine Plywood ? I'm pretty sure that the answer is Marine Plywood ... But here in Quebec City, Marine Plywood is probably very very rare .. will try to find but if not standard plywood is that a good alternative ?!
By the way, i'll post pics of the restoration of my boat and I'm going to ask you a lot of question because I'm a newbie in that and I really want to do it by myself ...
@AFR .. sent you a PM

Hey guy im a firm believer in marine grade plywood and most likely you will be using 3/4 inch and that will have a seven ply laminate opposed to 4 on standard ply wood and a full sheet will run around $90 and i have to say that this subject can get very heated sometimes .
