Fuel problem
Trying to finish my project daycruiser but can't seem to get the fuel pump to stay primed! I have replaced everything except the tanks themselves. When I first put the motor in and took it out for a trial run it ran fine, then the next time I had sand like crystals in the filter! after a couple of other times I noticed these crystals and other things were making there way into the float bowl! I had the tanks cleaned or sucked out as they are glassed into the sides, and the guy said he couldn't guarantee that he got all of the crap out of them! then I replaced the filter and could not get the pump to pull the fuel through the separator filter I bought so I tried to push the fuel through it! No luck, then I went back to inline filters and changed the fuel separator; I had to ptime the pump and let it filter the tanks back into themselves for a long time! Thinking maybe there was air in the system the pump appeared to stay primed, so out on the water and again the same senario the pump looses prime and of coase you all know the outcome! Anyone ever had this problem?

If there is a vent to these tanks I can't find them but I did think of that and it didn't work either!

At first I thought someone didn't like the guy I bought the hull from and poured something in his tanks but the boat ran great the first time I took it out! The problem is no longer the fuel itself it is something to do with just transfering the fuel from the tanks to the carb! The pump I ordered was from a speed shop specially for what I told them it was for and it is a Marine pump! I am wondering if the stuff that went through it might have ruined the pump itself!

Just a guess but aluminum tanks? how old is the boat? sounds like Aluminum oxide. Do you have any redish brown sand to?

Yes the sand crystals are a red or orange color but there doesn't seem to be a lot of those crystals coming through the lines after I filtered the tanks! What would be the fix for this have the tanks boiled out or replaced?

The brownish orange crystals are ferrous oxide most likely from brass fittings in the fuel line. Unfortunately the best way is to take it apart and clean them. Any of the sedatives in the tank are very hard to get rid of even if you have it proffesionally done (polished). Please still post the model # of pump. I will check back tonight.

Well if the pump is not messed up from the particles going thru it can you put a hose in a fuel can and bypass your tanks?
Fuel can to pump to carb, and see if it runs good like that.
If it does your problem likley would be in the tanks, pickups ect...
Remember also if that stuff made it thru the pump it could be messing with your carb now also

Could also be holes in the pickup tubes in the tanks?
Have you ever had a hole in your straw in a drink before?
Lots of air and not much fluid

the placement of the electric pump could be the culprit, definitely address the sediment problem with a quality filter before the pump. then be sure the pump is placed where it will do more pushing than pulling. had one recently that had driven the customer nuts, problem solved by relocating the pump lower and closer to the tank. just a thought.
