Ah yes, I remember this boat. One of my all-time favorites. And the Bridgeports remain my all-time favorite outboard as well. I think that's the quintessential classic high performance V-King combination right there.

Moar spy pics of some parts for my new metalflaked acquisition.

I painted these this past saturday, 1 good coat of flake suspended in an intercoat clear (like a base coat, but clear) with 2 coats of straight clear coat. Looks pretty normal here.

with the flash on, the flake shows...

Still not like it dances in the sun, but you get the idea. as soon as I get a chance I will shoot more flake on them, then bury it all in some klear.

That was BOM many, moons ago. The pc is long gone but that image was forever burned into the screen.

Both. I was curious to see how that size flake shot out of my HVLP trim gun, and how it looked once it was on the part. So I killed 2 birds with one stone.

I'll be posting more pics of the finished stuff soon.

Here is a few pictures of my 1970 MX 14 Checkmate - we purchased it new in Dec.1970 and still have it!
Have run it every summer at the cottage north of Toronto.
The deck is totally faded but it runs great.

That is just outstanding! It looks great.
Just a thought, you could try wet-sanding the deck, or have it re-cleared.
Mr. Speath is not far away from you...
I had a '70 MX18 in about the mid-'70's, I had the deck re-cleared, looked great. It had the same kind of seat box yours did. Very cool.
    I loved that boat.

I had a chance to buy a nice inline-6 Merc 1000 short shaft this summer.
This would have been my ideal boat to put it on.
But there just aren't any more around to be had. I don't think they made that many 14's.

When I was a teenager (early '70's), we used to run with a couple older guys, they were brothers, they had that exact color MX14 with a Merc 1000 long shaft. It was named "Myasis Dragon".

awesome! I've never seen a champion with a "ski" deck on it. My "new" boat is black gel too, it's been out in the FL sun for 6+ years and has really suffered, but with some wetsanding and buffing, the black is rubbing out to a very nice shine.
