Ford 460 ignition trouble
I aquired a Tahiti jet w/Ford 460 that blows fuse as soon as key is turned to IGN. I found that if I isloate point contacts with paper fuse does not blow. Ignition is Mallory dual point w/stock coil, ballist resistor. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

First what amp fuse is it? The points are the end of the line so to speak. Power runs through every thing , ballist resistor to coil then to ground through the points. I would think if it has the correct fuse then one of the components, coil or resister is shorted internally.

I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.

Dead Short
When you turn the key you are completeing the circuit, so if the fuse is blowing I would say that you have a dead short...... Check continuity between all points with a fluke to find the problem area then disconect it from the electrical path and jumper that area with temp wires across to re-check ignition switch to verify the problem.... Trace all of your wires too and check for nicks that could be in contact of metal/ground.

Thanks, seems both the coil and the ballest resistor were shorted internally. Boat runs great. Pic attached
