    1998 Optimax -150 hp .. Decent Motor?

Now that my 91 V-135 project motor is almost done, I'm looking at a couple of train wrecks on eBay for my next project motor.

There are 2 semi complete 1998 150 Opti's. The price is reasonable. Putting aside the unknown condition of the engines, my question is whether there is any reason to steer clear of the 98 150 or can one be rebuilt to be a decent motor. We're not talking all out racing but I would be taking the extra time and effort to build a nice motor.

No serial no's at them moment and not sure if they're EFI or DFI.

    Thanks in advance..

    Regards,

    Steve

Thanks. I thought I saw a 98 EFI version somewhere. Just got an email from the seller, these are both DFI's. I think they're also Mariners but that's just paint anyway. These are both really rough engines going for 300.00 each plus shipping.

Thank you, that's all I needed to hear. One of them appears to be painted Mariner Gray the other is Phantom Black, the pics aren't all that clear.

    I'll look for something else.

    Again, thanks.

steve the optis are chit, we build them 5;1 over efi or carb.at 300$ thats not a bad deal though, they would have good cranks and rods in them and thatwould be a good deal just for them. and yes they did make mariner optis in 98.
