The way I understand the EPA regs. any motor manufactured to a certain "star" emissions level cannot be tampered with. If you did find someone (or yourself) to make changes then it would void the warranty and would also make the motor non compliant. Unfortunately this is the world we live in. As long as Merc can make "Hi Performance" engines that are compliant (or their total engine group emissions pass) then they are legal and have at least some warranty.

the current 350 verado is making 375 already. merc has built 400 verados that are running now, they just arent available, and likely wont be for some time. neither yamaha nor mercury are expected to be releasing 400s at miami in february...

Well not to be a smart about this I totaly understand were your comming from. BUT you can do what ever you want as long as you dont get cought I mean the governments do it all the time as well as the law makers so realy who gives a dam anymore what the laws are? I would just find a way to make er run like the wind and not worry about all the EPA BS because its just that BS anyway. Our leaders are who we vote in to show us the right way. I guess that makes it open season to do what ya want. I have several buddies that have improved there motors that would void warrenties and just put everything back for servicing. I dont see the harm in that at all. Every one does it and if you dont your missing out.

The company that makes Non EPA compliant parts could find itself in trouble I would have thought as well as the guy who did it.
I just wonder how it will be enforced?
I spoke with a guru at BRP a few months back re parts for overseas where there are no laws and he said if that part found it way back to the US they would be fined so forget it.
There is an EPA get out, as its done now in one particular outboard class.
Each engine sold has to get an exemption and the purchaser applies for it.
It claims this engine can only be used in approved competition and CANNOT be used recreationally.
When its pull start, 6 inch transom, 1:1 lower, no trim you can see why..Last edited by powerabout; 11-05-2009 at 03:26 PM.

What would a 400 hp Verado need, race fuel, the 300 already needs premium.
