Yamaha Performance
I have been in the motorcycle industry since June of 1976. Most of it with Yamaha as a stand alone or a brand in the mix. If Yamaha feels it's time to go after the Hi-PO outboard market big time and freak everyone out, they can and will do it. But only if the numbers sold are there.
Look no further than the new R-!.

i was just about to post about this, i have one friend on yamahas prostaff and another friend owns a skeeter/ranger dealership, i will have to see what info i can pull before hand if anything. i watched that gamechanger video, they look both to be I class boats, but no matter what, that boat on the left is unreal. vmax series 2 are nasty out of the hole and accelerating but that other outboards just made the series 2 look like some brick in the water. will be interesting to say the least. my stinking carbed vmax is unbelieveable but this is gonna be good, really good.

Hi Po market is so small I doubt Yamaha will ever have a Hi Po eng, look at Mercury, market is gone for Hi Po outboards. Hard enough to sell regular consumer stuff. Bass market is there but how many people next year are going to lay out 50 to 60 grand for a bass boat?
I hope it all picks up some.

From my perspective, yamaha developments closely follow behind Mercurys accomplishments. Watch what new products merc does and you will see the clone yamaha engines come out. And they will be VERY similar to any thing merc develops. With yamaha it's still, monkey see, monkey do. One thing for sure, jap motors suck.....But thats not fresh news you will have to wait to hear about untill the next boat show... I know lots of people worship jap motors, but I ain't one of them....Support America, buy American products it benefits us all....

Too bad Merc has moved its production of mid sized engines to China and almost all of their electrical is assembled in Mexico. Now that's American. Merc has been rapidly loosing marketshare to Yamaha over the last several years because the average consumer wants a turn key engine with no major issues and as bad as I hate to admit it, right now that engine is Yamaha. I don't think you can find anything on Yamaha 4-strokes that has been copied from Merc. In fact Yamaha built all of Mercs first 4-strokes. The Verado is a joke and Merc better wake up or Yamaha will continue to roll them over. As a dealer for both Merc and Yamaha I can honestly say that Yamaha is a MUCH easier company to deal with. And I am not biased one way or the other as my Dad first went to Merc school in 1961 and has been a Merc and Mercruiser Master Tech since 1972 and my brother has been a Merc Master Tech since 1990.
I would like to buy American too and I will as soon as they can give me a product worthy of the cost.
