if its a yamaha to get 350-400 hp at 550 lbs it aint 4 stroke.... even their 225 v6's are closer 2 600 annd there really isnt much savings to be had with their current designs.. i can see a revision to the current hpdi dfi system and current blocks to see 350 or 400 hp... but gearcase limitations are a current problem in hp applications due to bearing load and torque loading that eat up seals due to pressure build up when surfaced..

4-16-2014. 25 years old today... the fishin boat doesnt look to bad for a classic does she

things that were are no longer as they are today...

from what i have understood, the 2010 vmax will be 4-stroke and comparible to current hpdi's in weight and performance.

If that is true then they are likely based off of the 4cyl 4stroke..not the six. It would be sad to see the HPDI's go away...

This is what I hear also.
I wonder about the gear case design.

The V-Max gear case has good bow lift, but far from a SportMaster for surface apps.

HPDIs will be pretty much gone. My best guess is Yamaha does not have a competitive V6 300hp for the saltwater market. Nobody wants the V8 300, imagine that. So it will probably be a 300 saltwater motor then tuned down to a 250 freshwater motor.

I could see that happening for the saltwater stuff....but don't see that as a solution in the vmax series...though maybe 50lbs won't hurt a skeeter lol.

any hpdi (or any outboard for that matter) that is not at least 3 star epa rated will no longer be produced for U.S. consumers after dec. 31, 2009. they have to have something up their sleaves.

    The 225 Sport XS, 250XS, and 300XS 2-Star rated?

No word of these motors changing.
