2009 Chevy Impala VS 1959 Chevy Bel Air
I thought this was a very interesting video of a a crash test between a 2009 Chevy Impala and a 1959 Chevy Bel Air. As much as we complain about modern cars being made of "plastic" .....it's amazing to see the results of a old vs a new car. I'm a little surprised at the extensive damage to the Bel Air.

The Bel Air has a perimeter frame and was not built to absorb an impact like the newer cars.
I really don't see the point in this. Just destroyed another classic.

I don't think the Bel Air was worth a whole lot.....but it did look in good shape.

New cars are safer, no doubt.
Have you seen the small car tests?

Did you see all the rust that was flying? New production VS 50 year old tub. I wonder how you would make that fair?

That's amazing. You'd think the Bel Air's size and weight and size would destroy the new car??
Happily Misunderstood....

I've tried to have this conversation with people for years... They think just because the bumpers and fenders on the old stuff is thick don't mean a damm thing in a high speed crash... The superstructure of newer cars are just plain and simply far superior to the older stuff...

I can vouch for the small cars I rear ended a mini cooper with my FX4(foot caught on pedal) I hit it like a pingpong ball and he got not one bit of damage. Almost forgot I hit him twice

Very interesting comparison, tons of R&D ($$$) looks as if it has equaled safer vehicles.
