Going Drag Racing with an eTec 150
I had an issue (locating pin came out of the piston) with my 1996 Johnson 200 Limited Edition on my Allison Bass Boat, so I'm hijacking my Dad's AllyShot with the 150 eTec on it that he races roundy-rounds with in APBA SuperSport class to go drag racing with this weekend at the St. Louis Drag Boat Association race in Litchfield, IL. I'm sure I'll run the River Racer class (any boat running 12.00-16.99 seconds in a quarter mile). My bass boat would run high 12s at around 87 MPH in a quarter mile. I'm interested to see what this boat will run. Anybody want to take a guess?
I took all the weight out of it and put a 26" Drag Cut prop on it and the thing launches out of the hole like I would never have imagined. It was the first time I'd ever driven a boat with an eTec on it and I was REALLY impressed.
I can't imagine how much fun this would be with a 250 or 300 HP eTec on it.
I'll let you know how it goes after the weekend.Sam Baker

With all of the E-tech's i've seen, worked on, or driven I think the 150 is the most impressive. It is the fastest reving production engine I have seen, perfect for drag racing

The boat weighs 540. Total, with me in it is around 1400.
I drove it last week and it launched the boat completely out of the water when I nailed it with the trim about 1/2 way out....really cool.
I'm bummed my other motor broke, but this should be a different experience. I'm bringing a 30" Cleaver - I may need that to keep it off the limiter in 1/4 mile!Sam Baker

We'll see on Thursday. I may put Ol' Yellow Fever out on the dance floor with you. I think I can hang tough for 100' or so. Dang it I hate those long (800') courses!

Is the gearcase coned on the 150 ETEC?

Brannon, an "Ally-Shot" is half Allison, half Quartershot. This particular boat is a custom one-off that Jack Barsh who owns Quarterhot built. Scott Vickery (YellowAllison here on the board) found an Allison XB-2003 bass boat that had been in a garage fire. The deck was totally junk but the hull was fine. They cut the deck off and put a Quartershot T-1 race deck on it. It's very cool - something different. I know Scott and Jack are working on a version with an XB-2002 bottom that should be even faster.
My Dad used this boat in APBA's SuperSport class and it was very quick. This particular motor - per SuperSport rules - is completely bone stock. Stock steel reeds, no nosecone, stock EMM/ECU, etc. Just like you'd buy it from the dealer. It'll run about 82 MPH on GPS which isn't bad considering no lower water pickup which would let me raise the motor quite a bit.
Here's a pic of it on the trailer.

e-tec ally
I had to write in on this, and signed up for s&f from the shop.
I have had the e-tec small block 200 on my allison river racer, for a couple years now.
I am getting right at 82 also, and worry about blowout....I am all over the rev limiter, at 6050, and feel it start at 5850. I ve got about 3 inches left on the hot foot and just dont really want to put my 29 rx on it and get a lesson, especially in the narrow canals we run. my motor is way low on the jack , and I dont want to nose cone the original gearcase
we did hear of a free trick to get a couple 100 rpm, and i'm sure you too have added a 1 inch hole in the backside of the airbox, near each venturi for a bit more incoming air.
This is my 1st post from work, and i'll try to give s&f some more input from here...i have some short videos, but not sure how to pop them here.
good runs with the evinrude!!!!LET's RIDE !

I thought the Merc Mafia said that a Production Motor would never work on boats like that? Just askin a real question, not flingin chit today, so that 200 Smally runs good ? Have anyone ever seen the ACTUAL dyno of a 2.6liter 200 Etec? Ive always been told about 192, and that is perfect math for a Lightninig cased 175 HO, I actually have a pic from a advertisement from BRP from a couple yrs ago with a stock 175 etec with the Lightning case, weird huh? the pic is on Google.com, under images, just put etec and it will come up, white 175s with the case
