    Exclamation 260 steel bore????

To make a 260 a non Nicasil engine you have to start with a promax 225 block??

    True or false???

The reamining hole from the Nic sleeve is oversize for the cast bore???

There are lots of 260's running around with one or more steel sleeves in them. I know of one that is steel sleeved on all 6. Guy turns 7500 all day long, and has probably 300 hours on it so far. Good motor.

You can even slightly bore ( 260, 280, 245, or Drag blocks ) out a bit of the Nic coated sleeve and install one of the VERY thin steel sleeves and get "some" of the heat transfer advantage of the Alum. sleeve from what Ruck tells me.....

I run an all steel sleeve modified 260 and an all steel sleeve S-3000(300 Drag) on my F-1/Mod-U class tunnel boat. I won the 2006 North American Championship with the modified 260 which I assembled in 2001. I just this last month pulled the heads and tore this engine down for the first time since it was assembled after 23 races. I turn both these engines right at 10,000 RPM lap after lap. I use Advance Sleeve 3/16(thick) sleeves and have not had ANY problems. The key is proper radiusing of the ports and proper honing. We hone with 220, 280 and 400 grit stones. The engine I just pulled down have very minimal ring wear. It looked as though the engine had not finished seating the rings and had not completed break in after 23 races .If done properly there seems to be no horepower advantage shown on our Stuska Waterbrake dyno with the nikasil nor is longivity and issue. In fact the longivity seems to be far better. In the event of a scuffed piston 9 times out of ten , simple honing will put the cylinder back in shape to run not to mention you can get the top pinned Wizard pistons we sell in oversize if you do need to bore a cylinder. Can't beat the steel for longivity and saving money...

    Thanks guys!!

    Awsome info!!

In my opinion a cast sleeve 2.5 with 300 Drag porting.Wizard top pinned pistons.260 style electrics.Slide fronts and a altinator set up, would be the ultimate 2.5. If done properly should run hard for a long time!!

Being that I'm a machinist I would like to CNC port the cast sleeves before they go in.

A Brucato ( ACU or PCU ) would be a great choice IMO.... (Fully programable)

The Drag sleeves are CNC cut

Definately the Brucato PCU and I strongly suggest a good adjustable regulator Get the steamwheel and software, that way you can load the programs from your PC (Tony will email different fuel curves) and save time/shipping back and forth. Tony will educate you on adjustments and you should be able to "fine tune" it in no time. I run several different motors and have to tune for each one, some like 39 lb fuel pressure while others like 56 lb pressure.

Twig, you can get nic sleeves down in heidleberg, T tops too. Get an old 2,5, pop the sleeves out, have a little play, new sleeves in and go from there.
