New Here looking for a little help if possible with trailering a new boat
New to this site,
some of my friends are members here and they told me to make a post maybe someone can help me out,
Im picking up a new to me 87 Baja Force 235 on Monday,
it comes with a trailer but the trailer has no breaks and is not in the greatest of shape,
does anyone have or know of a place I could maybe rent a trailer for the day,
Boat is 23.5 feet long,
I have to pick the boat up in East Northport, and bring it back to my house in Seaford,
kind of a far ride for something without brakes
if anyone can lend any help or know where to rent something please post up, pm me or even email me at blkstang0321@yahoo.com
thanks

No BRAKES?
I towed a 1979 25' WELLCRAFT 250XL BBC from Des Moines, Iowa to Crystal River Fl with a '85 DODGE RAMCHARGER 4X4. NO BRAKES and 195x14 tires.
Also a '90 22' 220ov Sea Ray SBC from Gibsonton, Fl 101 miles. NO BRAKES."Where is Lee Harvey Oswald, Now that we really need him?"

23' boat doesnt even require brakes. Take a air pump, floor jack and a couple loaded hubs. Jack up each wheel and check each wheel spins smoothly and the nut is snug before you head out. If you find one froze up, with a bad bearing or though to turn replace it. You can get hubs at Northern tool. If you dont need them take them back. 23' trailer should have 4.5 x 5 lug pattern.

Don't want to sound condencending...
but you'll be fine as long as you tow it with a vehicle / truck that weighs MORE than the boat and trailer.....just not a volkswagen
Boatless..... but plotting

I don't think so Tim!
My 220 Searay is big and heavy it's on a alum Loadmaster it has disc brakes on 1 axel, my 25 Wellcraft 250XL on a alum Magictilt has drum on 1 axel, they just were not working at all on either trailer.
And...what size is the ID on the hubs he should buy?
On my road trips I took 2 spare tires on wheels, trailers both had Bearing Buddys I also took a grease gun and a tire plugging kit,and a breaker bar with 4 sockets."Where is Lee Harvey Oswald, Now that we really need him?"

Check the bearings and drive slow. Drove my stream home from massapequa to Dix hills with an f'd up axle. Throw the hazards on and drive slow. You'll be okay.

For a boat that size, you should be ok without breaks, but if you are really concerned about the condition of the trailer, check with Frank Mole and see if he can transport it for you

Good advice! I've towed one h#$ll of a lot of miles with all kinds of rigs on the hitch. My personal favorite towing vehicle is a 3/4 ton pickup. The towing vehicle make all the difference in towing safety, especially if something goes bad behind you. First and foremost, watch your speed and inspect your rig every time you stop for something.

I did not have brakes on my Hyrostream Vector/OMC V6 and I was pullin it with my Wife's full size Ford Chateau van. It had just started to rain when a light changed in front of us. Even with the Van's ABS, the trailer pushed us into the intersection.
I now have the Kodiak SS discs on my A-Boats trailer and you would never know it is there, behind my 4x4 F150 or my Wife's Honda Pilot.
I did hear something bumping in Panama City on vacation. When I launched the boat I found one of the calipers had unbolted itself and was dragging on the bronze rotor. I found a couple of similar bolts at a hardware store but the pads were ruined [I am still wainting on them].
