I wanna go faster???
I just bought a 1984 1650(16'.7") procraft bass boat with a 1990 johnson 150 gt, that i absolutley love! The motor appears to have never been touched, and runs great. My problem is, as is most of us, "I wanna go FASTER!" I just got a high-jacker 5" jackplate for putting a tranny line fitting on a jeep cherokee.........sweet!!! I'm borrowing my grand fathers 22 pitch raker prop, that i'd like to get off asap, considering it belongs to him of all people! I think i need a bigger prop. But I aint got the money to buy a bunch of props, to find out which one works the best. So can anyone tell me where i should start? Also the jackplate.........ima beef the transom up with sum 1/4" aluminum I scrownged up.... But where should I start with it. How far down should i put the bullet? I'd appreciate any feedback. I'm new to the site, but have read some pretty interested stuff sofar, and my dads spoke very highly of it as well. So anyways, thanks...

I guess us bassboat boyz dont get no love on here unless it's someone trying to sell us something! Well I cant afford no river racer right now. I just gotta work with what I got.............and if I must say.......I think it's got potential to do atleast 70 mph, and that's plenty fast enough for me!!

This prop should work great for your motor. Would you like his number? I have no connection with the prop. I found it at a local dealer. Its in great shape. Its a 23p SRX worked by DAH. Thats all I know about it.
Edit: It might be for a v6 now that I think about it, it prob wont fit on your motor? Will it?

With the Jackplate you can raise the motor up thereby turning a bigger prop. The Procraft is heavy for it's size so you need good bow lift. I would try to find a used 24 Trophy with the PVS vents. Start at 3" below the pad and see how it lifts and check your rpms at wide open throttle. If the boat is flying good, you have good water pressure (you have a guage right?) and the rpms are below 5800 then move the engine up in 1/4" increments until you A. hit 6000 or B. lose water pressure or C. the bow does not lift (rooster tail goes higer than the cowl). Once you hit A., B. or C. then drop the engine 1/4" back down and your there. The setback and bigger prop will net you a good increase over the Raker with the engine on the transom. After that your spending money on engine mods to go faster.

Ya, I think he is asking $200 for it. I would tell him $150 he may take it. It is at Smith's II Marine in Wisconsin. His number is 608-562-5977. Good luck buddy. Hope you find what your looking for on S&F. There are alot of very nice and reliable people on here.

Thanks a million Wizard....... that's the best advice yet! That gives me somewhere to start. Sorry it took so long to get back 2 yall. I've been in Augusta for my dads first boat race all weekend..........and if I must say...."He did a HELL of a job!!!" If you kept up with the race, he was in the River Racer class, in the boat named KOTA, #45, the red allison, name Tony Ward!! Congrats dad!!! I'm deffinetely gonna take your advice Wizard. I plan on doing the transom with aluminum this week. Which means I'll be able to start playing with the jackplate this weekend. My buddy has a 24 pitch prop that I can borrow, but I dont know what type it is or anything about the vents. I'll find out though. Does the brand and vents make that big of a difference? I could'nt just settle for any ol' 24p prop?! Thanks to you too madsnrn. I'm gonna see what this 24 does for me, since I dont have to buy before I try! But if I need to downsize, I got the number... I'll keep yall posted. And once again, thanks alot............
