What do you tow with?

To 1BadAction:
Got 3.73 gear in it, and run it 5th most of the time, downhill I'll up it to 6th. That manual mode on the shifter is nifty, just press the +/- button.
Think the camper goes about 6,000, boat(s) and trailer is probably 1800 more.
So far only mod is K&N filter, truck has an muffler the size of a 30 gallon drum.
Had bought the truck as a repo, it did not have cruise control, figured no big deal, I'll just add it. Then found out GM brainbox cannot be reconfigured for electronic cruise, in fact you can't add anything electrical - way to go GM.
So I have a Rostra mechanical linkage cruise hooked to the gas pedal, gas pedal is just a rheostat anyway - was able to access the turck's VSS wire and it works like a charm. Also added power windows - that was a slam dunk, maybe a 3 hour project.

Thats not as heavy as I thought it would be. I've had close to 7k on my TBSS and while I wouldn't want to pull the mountains, it was fine on the flat land. A full size should handle 8 or so pretty good, especially with that trans/rear combo.

On the cruise, I feel your pain. A dealer wouldn't even begin to know how to do it, other than telling you to buy a new truck, lol. It can be done, but you would need to chase down the correct harness, BCM, and have someone tune it with HP Tuners or EFILive. Something like the Rostra is easier and you won't void the warranty.

I'm clearly not in this game. We tow with my wife's Pontiac Vibe. It can tow my Baja, but it's too small to tow my Allison.

I'm starting to think about replacing my Miata with something that would be fun to drive and could tow my SS2000 occasionally. A V8 Mustang seemed obvious, but they are only rated to tow 1000 lb. Has anyone towed more with a Mustang.

Trucks are out of the question. I need something fun to drive and relatively fuel efficient on the highway. Any suggestions?

Reminds me of my home built 71 MGB powered by a 350 chevy, etc, etc. 400hp in a 2100lb package.

Nothing groundbreaking, but I'd say that an F-Body GM v8 car anywhere from 1994-newer with some simple mods would be OK for an SS2000 if Your careful and easy to avoid any surprises... Either the 6-speed or the Auto would be fine, I'd put a small cooler on an auto and pull lightly without worry... Final thought, I look at all the hitch options and go with the best that I could find in terms of bolting to as many locations as possible (if such a hitch exist)...

yeah i had my 35s on the stock gmc 16s then i found these 22s and i love the look of the 22 with 37s so i went with that and with very little cuttin of the plastic piece under the bumper they fit snug lol... and it looks awsome

Greg pulled his V-king all over the place with his LT1 fbod. Hitches are available and will handle a 2500lb or less load fine.

A caprice with suspension tweaks or a 90s impala SS would fit what he is looking for also. even a stock impala SS is surprisingly nimble. If you want newer, the Mercury Marauders are pretty stout rides.

I've had no problem with my T/A pulling my '85 Hydrostream Voyager, my '89 Allison XTB-21, and my current '95 Allison XB-2003. I pulled a 14' aluminum boat loaded with crap from Ohio to Washington. Think I've got a hidden hitch on mine, only rated for 200 tongue/ 2000 total, but I'm sure there's a safety buffer in there. It bolts onto the car with 6 bolts. Problem free! The only thing extra I did was put airbags in the rear springs, because if you put a gallon of milk in the back of one of these things the rear will sag. Few pounds in there and you're good to go!

Those were the first that came to mind, but I assumed He may have been referring to something a bit smaller but like I said it was an assumption on My part and the decision of course is His to make... I don't know about the structure of the Impala/Caprice/Roadmasters in terms of them being a frame or unibody but I do know that the Marauders, Crown Vics, etc. and such are a full frame car...
