Challenger, Superboat, Shadow gas tank advice
Well pulled the floor out of my challenger and I think I found out why my fuel guage reads full till its empty. Shouldnt this sender be farther forward near the middle of the tank? Anyone know where I can get the stainless T strip moulding thats on the floor?

That setup looks just like the one in my 1979 Wellcraft 25' w/ 125 gal tank. The sender in the rear. Maybe its bad. Is the boat level when your reading it?

My velocity is the same way. Moving the sender forward will not fix your issue, because when the boat is sitting in the water the back of the tank is lower then the front. They put the sender in the rear so that you have a good idea how high the level of fuel is in the back of the tank where the pickup is. If you put the sender in the middle of the tank you will most likely read empty when you still have a 1/4 tank or so

Thanks
I thought I read somewhere that the superboats sender was like 34 inches forward. It makes sense that if it was that far forward it would still have gas in it when it read empty. I think there is just the old pendalum type sender in it. Gonna replace it with a Wema sender. Thanks Mike

My sender on my Shadow was in the rear of the tank also. My gauge was pretty accurate. Chuck

Hey Chuck
Do you know what sender you had? Its a choice between Wema and Livorsi. RLC has the Wema and says it works very well. And you order it to length so no cutting or calibration. \
It also looks like the floor just lays back in with these moulding covering the carpet. I guess the back seat keeps it from coming up besides the fact that it weighs about 100 lbs.
Ideas where I can get new trim moulding like this. Its shaped like a T and is about an inch wide and is aluminum not stainless.

Superboat sending unit
On my 1991 21' Super the sending unit is 44" forward from the rear edge of the tank.

I know this is just a generic sender but I am running a Moeller sender with the float that slides up and down, It is fairly in expensive, very accurate, and simple to hook up and use I just looked in the supply book, they come from 8" to 23" and are called "reed switch sender"

The Wema is the same style its like 40 bucks. However it says its for a guage that 240-30 ohms and my Livorsi guage is 240- 33 ohms. I wonder if that will make a diff? The trim I need looks like something a flooring place or carpet store might sell. I will check the local Lowes and Home Depot first.

My 1982 21' Superboat had a tank made out of .090 and the sender was twords the middle of the tank . When I built a new tank because the original one split open , I put the new sender in the same place . Looking back , I wish I had mounted the new tank ( 5052 x 3/16ths ) pitched down in the front or made it with a slight wedge shape to make it easier to fill (air pocket in the front) and put the sending unit about 1/3 of the way from the rear .
Bout the best i can get is 48 gal's in my 60 gal tank and it also reads empty with about a quarter tank left .... Hind sight is always 20/20
You can buy that "T" strip at any industrial supply house that sells architectual aluminum . Or from a shop that builds alot of railings and sliding glass window frames .

Hey Chaz
Havnt seen you on for a while. Good to see your still around. Just down in Palm City looking for a place on the water. Give me a shout if you see anything nice.
My problem is when mine reads empty its empty. But it goes from Full right to Empty in a matter of miles. My tank is 75 gallons. Not original. Thanks Mike

I just realized how large your tank is, you should cut that thing in 1/2!!!!!!!!!!!! That thing is slowing you down
