why do you want to mess with a system that works fine? you are askinf for more problems than it is worth. Just my 2 cents

because the motor would run around 180 degrees all the time. I talked to noah at eagle one and he told me normal operating temp should be around 155. he told me to remove my thermostats and poppet valve and should cure the problem. i already removed the thermostats and put in the restriction washers.

That usually worked for me, but this time it didn't.
I was getting hot, so I thought it was time for my yearly "switch from thermo's to restrictors..........still hot.........so I put in a new pump top 1/2, (which ALWAYS fixes the to hot problem)......but it didn't this time.
I put the thermo's back in, and it cooled right back down to where it ought to be.
Poppet is still in too. (the poppet was still working with the restrictors in)JOHN MASON

i think i know the difference between water temp and head temp thats why i have a WATER TEMPERATURE gauge. the motor had 143 degree thermostats in it. When i would fire it up it wouldnt start pissing until the guage read around 140 degrees which i thought was odd because every other motor i have pisses as soon as you start them up. so i called up eagle one. I did what he told me to do and now it wont piss at all. i pulled the lower unit yesterday and the impeller was bad so i changed that but still same problem.

water pump
you should change the whole water pump assembly, not just the impeller. for what its worth i would leave it stock and find the reason is was running hotter

Its best ta use OEM coolin' stuff. Tha after market parts are prone ta be not as consistent and can be bad right out of tha package...............

Calm down a minute......oh, and welcome to Scream and Fly !
Just because your gauge says "water temp" doesn't necessarily mean it is READING the actual water.
I think they ALL say "water temp", most outboards take the temp reading from the HEAD, and are not actually IN the water flow.
John, (US1) is a merc GURU, and knows them well, but its ok, if you stay here long, you will learn who to take advice from, (and some not to listen to)
If your actuall WATER TEMP is 180, thats kinda high....but a HEAD TEMP reading of 180 isn't terrible, (I don't like mine to show that high, but it is acceptable)
The temp senders for the buzzer take the reading from the same place (head temp) that the sender does for the gauge.
John, do the newer motors take readings IN the water, or ON the heads, (like my older motors do)?JOHN MASON

could be a mismatch between the engine temp sender and guage, did you try to shoot the heads w/ a temp gun?? as said before, leave the cooling system alone!! it works fine, something else is wrong

I carry a pocket size temp gun, in my boat and anytime I have a questionable temp reading, I pull the cowl and have a temp check.
I also have a low tech redneck gauge back up that is easy to install.
Super Glue the outdoor sender to the head, and there ya go, a general idea of the heat on THE SURFACE of the head......it also tells you how hot it is outsideJOHN MASON
