    Flywheel or Flexplate?

I've got a 16' Cheetah Jet I'm building a 383 for. My question is should I run a Flywheel or a Flexplate? What are the pro's and con's of both? What are most of ya'll running in your jets? Thanks

I ran a flex plate to reduce rotating mass

I run flex plates on all my jet boats, just use heavy duty sfi to prolong life of ring gear because there is no touque converter bolted to it for rigidity.
Also if it had a flywheel, make sure the driveshaft still engages the pump far enough but not too far as to put anything in a bind (main bearings).

Now get busy on that ride, we have a spot saved for you at Sandy Beach

always used a good quality flex plate, just didnt want the extra weight of the flywheel.

Hey Joe,I'm spinning wrenches now. Got the engine out and crank and cam had a good bit of wear.Had a stock oil pan and a high volume pump.Looked like pan had been sucked dry a few times.Anyhow, decided to axe crank as it was already turned .020/.020 and block was at .030.Cam lobes were a bit bad. So,am ordering a stroker kit w/rods and pistons, looking for a 7+ qt pan and went with a different intake and Comp XM278 cam.
I'll be giving you a call in a few weeks about the jet pump.

    Thanks

I['d avoid the high volume pump, and just go with the z-28 style high pressure standard volume pump. Any extra volume can wash the bearings, and just creates extra heat in the oil...

I'm sure you know that, but just for those who might not....

Yeah,Thanks on the heads up on the pump Darkside.I've run alot of high volume, high pressure stuff in my mud bog and mud drag trucks where you're only looking at about 4-6 seconds at full throttle.I was thinking high pressure, low volume as well.Had a few other guys on other sites said avoid the high volume pump and get a high capacity pan and oil cooler.I appreciate all the great input I've gotten thus far from everyone.I've built and run drag cars, drag bikes, quads and mud drag trucks. But,glad to see everyone is nice enough to give me some advice to save me time and money down the road.

    Thanks
