    Question Best SBC Engine Setup

Hey guys,I just pulled engine out my newly accquired 16' 1968 Cheetah Jet. It has a Berkeley 12JA jet with Place Diverter and looks to have a split bowl. The block is 4 bolt main, had a pair of Chevy 882 casting open chamber heads,a 750 Holley Vac. secondary carb,a 1968 Chevy 302 H.O. High Rise Factory Aluminum intake GM # 3917610 and a pair of what looks to be long tube GIL or REWARDER headers.
I've got a few options on build. I have a pair of Chevy Double Hump heads and also a pair of aftermarket Aluminum big valve heads. As far as cam,the two I am looking at are the Comp Cams XM270H and XM278H,intake wise, the Edelbrock Performer EPS and the Performer RPM Air Gap.
The XM270 makes it's power from 1600 to 5800 RPM with strong midrange. The XM278 makes its power 2000-6500 RPM. The performer EPS makes it's power idle to 5500 with strong torque at 3800. The performer RPM makes it 1500-6500 RPM.
And last, how much on compression?11.0,10.5,9.5? I'd like to have a jet boat that's fast and fun,but able to cruise and somewhat fuel efficient (LOL!!). Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I would go with a 383 kit and the aluminum heads that way you can run a bit higher comp due to the aluminum heads and the longer storke crank will help in the torque department. but if you realy want some thing go to a 434 SBC i found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-4...Q5fCarQ5fParts
what i like about it he is using brand new bow tie blocks with priority main oiling
