    21* is .104 on the dial. The marks on my flywheel are correct. Thanks guys, I think I did find my main problem. When I advance the throttle, the distributor turns and opens the carbs immediatly. My primary pickup needs to be adjusted to allow 4-6* advance on the dist. before opening the butterflys on the carbs. I think the guy that had this motor before me thought thats the way its supposed to be, couldnt figure it out and sold me the motor real cheap. I'm excited. LOL
    Thanks Jeff for the full procedure - I knew there was a way to set the timing without screaming down a lake at WOT with a timing light. I will definetely check it though with this method and hope I don't drop the timing light off the back of the boat. Should be a fun Saturday LOL.

    I had a '71 115, and my friends roomate went to jail for a long time, owed my friend some money, gave him the boat and he in turn sold it to me for $400. (boat, motor, trailer). I took my motor off and swapped it with this one cause it had tilt trim. Sold my other motor for $500, was in rough shape with the wiring but ran like a top, sold the trailer for $300, completely stripped the boat of everything including the aluminum trim, and scrapped it. Seats were excellent and are now in my boat. I think I made out alright, lol.

    Ok. Timing is set guys! Thanks for all your help!!!

    But...




    I still have a carb issue I havent been able to nail down. Motor has great idle and toodles around the lake great w/ all 6 cyl firing in perfect unison. upon acceleration though, you can hear one carb is not getting the fuel it needs and I lose two cylinders and alot of power. It'll cut in and out. Boat won't get up on plane.

    Double check the spark plugs for water or rust, it might not be a carb problem

    No water or rust on plugs. Just good ol clean oil residue from burning. I know what your thinking. Exhaust plate.
    Could the reeds cause this problem too? If they are say, opening up too much?

    No.

    Reeds cause hard starting and trouble idling. Above idle you can hardly tell if you have one or two completely missing (if you can get the motor to start).

    Ok then. That eliminates that variable, thanks. Takes just a hair more than comfort to get it started when its cold, but when its at operating temp or even warm, it fires up on the first revolution (immediatly).
