    more ski bee pics

    do I split the hull and deck? wondering about how to inteface new core to old core at the point just under the dash panel. much clean up work still to do.

    Hey ED, If the core is dry and solid fwd of the dash, just butt the new core up to the old core and glass over it. I'd suggest using the same materials as were used from the factory. No need to seperate the deck if you're not going into the bow.

    FYI, If you're going to post your build, you should start your own thread. 71Stingers thread is getting hijacked pretty bad.

    Core

    HE IS RIGHT IF YOU ARE NOT DOING THE DECK DON`T SPLIT IT, THAT WILL ALSO HELP KEEP THE RIGHT SHAPE, BUT ABOUT THE CORE MATERIALS YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE WOOD I INSIST BECAUSE LOOK AT THE WOOD IN IT NOW YOU DONT WANT TO DEAL WITH IT AGAIN 10 YEARS FROM NOW, BECAUSE ALL IT TAKES IS FOR YOU TO LEAVE A SMALL HOLE IN THE TOP LAYER OF GLASS WATER WILL GET IN AND YOUR PROBLEM STARTS AGAIN. AND GET RID OF THAT HEAVY STEEL PLATE ON THE TRANSOM.

    Thanks guys, I'll try to learn how to start a thread. never did this forum stuff before.
    I need to educate myself in core material, weights and types of glass, polyester resin vs Epoxy, vacuum bagging.
    most of my experience is with West Epoxy. never used core materials.
    I'll try to do some homework before getting all sticky and messy.

    Heck I don't mind the Hijack. It's all about Ebko tunnel hulls anyway. I just finished die grinding out 216 screw and rivets that secured the rub strip and then held the boat 1/2's together. They screws would not come out on their own (after 38 years, imagine that!!!) Burned up 3 conical shaped grinding bits to do it. The 1/2's are now freed up from the windshield forward. From the windshield back the factory laid cloth and resin on the inside to reinforce the joint. I now need to grind/cut through that layer to free up the rest of the overlap joint.
    Next issue will be seperating at the transom. Not sure what they did back there, looks like a bunch of resin was brushed around the bottom of the top 1/2 of the boat. Not sure what I'll use to get up there.

    Can you show a picture of your grinding bits? After having removed the screws that way, do you feel it is the best and only way? Did you think of or try any other methods. I tried to drill my screws, but they seem to be hardened. they are the self drilling self taping type of screws I have seen which are able to be installed in steel without a pilot hole. very hard, my drill bit wouldn't touch them. I just pried one out with a wonder bar, but put a crack through the lip of the joint at the center of the hole. not something I would do for all the screws.

    I created a thread for my project its call Ebko Sprint recore. Is it possible to move postings from one thread to a new one?

    Finally got the top off the boat, wow what a job that was.


    Now I can see all the damage











    More Grinding & Time to order some end grain balsa, I think.

    Not yet. Still about where I last posted. Longer, Colder, more snow than I expected. Not getting ready to go under the knife so I'll be laid up for a few weeks. When it get's back into the 40's I'll get back out after it.

    1973 Ebko

    Hey All,
    I am new to this forum, stumbled upon it b/c I recently acquired a 1973 Ebko....I need to sell it, does anyone want to make an offer on it. I have no idea if it floats, I have title.
    I live in S. Missouri.
