I changed my impeller and with the lower unit off , removed the poppet valve and flushed the motor from top to bottom and side to side, I got some black residue out but not much. she's been running great ever since. stays at 3/4 on the gauge at WOT lower at less revs . pee's good and strong as well. I've seen some people with modded water outlets , 2 pee hoses instead of 1 . is this a worthwile mod?

Hey guys sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just moved to South Georgia where you can actually boat, unlike Tucson (screw that place!). My boat has been sitting in the dry AZ air for 7 months so who knows what else is wrong with it now. I never got around to finishing the overheat problem I had before moving last year.
I guess I need to find a way to remove a corroded on powerhead since the last shop couldn't get the dang thing off. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for removing any deposits inside the engine? Grendel, how did you flush yours out? Thanks again for all the help hopefully it will be running for boat season, or so I can upgrade boats!

Yeeeaaaaaaah, those are 4 bolts I really don't want to have to remove! I like this motor, it's got plenty of pep, and it sounds like something fierce
Can I try pouring CLR, LIMEAWAY or something like that in the thermostat holes to loosen some of this gunk up?

As for flushing mine, I pulled the lower unit, the stat housings, and the poppet valve. I put a garden hose on high to the stat openings first , then the poppet opening and then the tube to the lower unit. I kept alternating until water ran freely no matter where i put the hose. not sure if it's right, but it worked for me.

For anyone else that ended up here from Google like me, the correct link for that thread is now https://www.screamandfly.com/showthread.php?109451
Apologies for the 8 year thread resurrection.
