Youngblood rebuild
I have been doing cars for a while and decided to "retire" from them and do one last project. My old mans true Jim Youngblood TX-19. It has sat in the back yard for about 16 years and seen more water there than total lake time. It was and still is the black and gold hull, which I emphasize importance because most were hideous and you guys know what Im talking about. It blew the ole 427 COPO back in the day and in preparation for being lake ready, 4th of July weekend, this is where Im at.
Engine- 468 BBC w/ worked 781 heads. 2.5 intake, 1.9 ex valves. Comp springs, roller lifters, pushrods, decked, port & polished, port matched Weiand tunnel ram, massaged 700 Holleys. Cam is custom ground 204 659 108. Harland Sharp aluminum rollers Comp girdles. Speed Pro 9,8:1 pistons on stock rods and Scat stock crank. 10 qt. pan.
Pump- Berkley 12JC with A cut impeller, droop and man. place diverter.
This is how she looked for 15 years out back.
Today, about 80% complete. Finish the motor when the machine work gets done and put it all together. So far so good and let it be known, I have done everything myself, in my garage, for a grand to date total of about $1800 less existing parts. Im stoked!!!
Notice the damage to the rubber bump strip in picture 2? I will leave them there as a friendly reminder of the old days. The old man managed to "rear end" another boat doing I guess 40 MPH. funny story!!!Last edited by gullwing; 05-05-2009 at 02:41 AM.

I cant find the rear engine mount/bell housing. If anyone is selling or know where to go to get one, would be great. I wanted to get the motor in, but cant now.

I FOUND IT...in the attic. Goes to show how long shes been out of commission. This whole project has been a gift for my old man. Great peoples but a rough 2008 to include totaling his brand new Kenworth ($160,000 worth of pile on the road courtesy of an idiot). Bankruptcy soon followed and IRS knocking on the back door.

It all gets better with time, so heres to getting better times.
***Also, dont tell mom, I got him a nitrous kit. Wont use it, but nothing sexier than a jet boat with a purge. Correct me if Im wrong.

The top mount starter is a good idea. Bottom mount starters end up underwater a lot. Hard to replace down there too
The gelcoat restoration came out excellent! What did you do to restore the gelcoat? Is that polish or clearcoat?Last edited by Propster; 05-06-2009 at 10:13 AM.

The starter is such a menace. We have lifetime starters, one on and one in the box. We have a special wrench that was made/welded to get to the bolts.
The hull was sanded, scraped and however else you can imagine to get to the base/gel. We sanded it down with 1500 grit and prepped. I then used good brand polyurethane clear coat and patience. once it was painted, we pulled it outside for some more 1000 the 2000 grit wet sand. Let it bake for about a week in the sun, washed it, did some touch up, and finished with a sanding polish for 3M at about 2000rpm. Final polish followed with a good quality clear polish and this is the end result.

I'm at a loss for words, all I can say is WOW, the paint work came out Beautiful.
I could only hope to have your kind of patience when the time comes to "deozodise" my gel.
The Best of Luck to you & your Father in 09,
Here's to keeping the Topside Dry.

Thank you sir kindly!!! And heres to the new '08 KS state law...lake noise maximum is 92 db at idle. NoT GooD.
About patience, I was diagnosed ADHD and OCD from a Clinic when I was in the Marine Corps. 1 dont know what happened, got drunk, passed out and when I woke up, the hull finished. I dont know??? I really think it is simply knowledge. I dont know how I got it all being 21, but I guess I got it.Last edited by gullwing; 05-07-2009 at 12:18 PM.
