Like the famous Audi 5000 acceleration problem back in the days, she probably hit the wrong pedal...

First thing I thought of when I read the first link it they prob had either 2 sets of floormats in the car, or the wrong ones, then read the second link, where they mentioned floormats. I have seen that with customers no matter what the manufacturer. Just a heads up to all...Don't run rubber floormats over your carpeted ones. I've seen it prob a dozen times over the years, even had it happen to me one time showing my ass in a mustang. I was out doing burnouts and the rubber mat over my carpet mat jammed the pedal to the floor. Worst part was it did it in front of a crowd of about 20 people when I tried to shift to 2nd gear, and instead all I got was a whole lot of rev limiter before I cut the car off.

I had an 88 Silverado new which would do that , often when you applied the brake. After several trips to the dealer which could find no problem, it was replaced by GM after the service manager and Tech which were test driving it wrecked it when it happened to them.

Or she could have bought a VW diesel and got better mpg, saved more of the planet, and not had this problem. I'm sure the US government is figuring out how to outlaw them as we speak, they already cut the mpg of diesels down a notch so we could burn more diesel.

My wife and I had a Z24 Cavalier that one time on a mountain in Hot Springs did that. I stepped on the brake and it was like I kicked the go pedal to the floor. I killed the ignition and it never happened again.( so far) We put over 300 k on that car. Still have it.

I know, I'll keep an eye out for them. Using 1/3 less fuel for the life of the vehicle would be a bad thing, for whomever is pulling the strings in this country. Maybe we have to save all that fuel for Nancy and Al's private jets. I figured it out once and it was something like 80K miles of fuel in a 3/4 ton truck to fly Nancy home one time.
