Horsepower???
OK i know these 2.5 mercs come with 280 and the 300x's somewhere between 300 and like 330 but what can these things really do? ive heard the f1 boats run around 400 hp, what about these speed nuts that have these stvs doing 130mph, how much hp do you think there runnin, ive just always wondered
they last longer if you run 'em hard

Many of the guys that are running in the 130's are running "fairly" stockish motors.
The most I have heard that can be made with a 2.5 on GAS is a little over 400 at the crank and yes they were for oversea F1 programs.
The "real" horsepower war is seen at the drags....on Alky guys with highly modified v6 Mercs that are stroked and oversized claim they can make in the 425-430 range.
In all reality a bone stock Merc drag motor will make around 330 at the crank and can easily push a well set up STV into the low 130's.
For easy power the option is Nitrous and with that game it pretty much comes down to how many motors can you financially go through.
Dixon ran over 150mph with a Drag motor and a small shot.
Here is his Unlimited Drag motor...this is serious power.

@ the first race of the season, many motors broke...
ofcourse its not always the rods of crankshaft, but in some cases...
in total, i think it was over 12 engines. in just 2 days, 2 races, timetrials en free practice every day.
i've seen crankshaft break just beneath flywheel, bearing.
weird places...
the nicasil of new engines isnt so good to...

thats awesome, so pretty much its all about set up more than brute power, kinda like any other motorsport, yeah i figured dixons name would pop up in this thread lol, wow 150 is amazing, was that with an stv mod-vp?? i guess these guys that are running over 130 just really know how to "setup" a boat and "drive" it rather than hang a tall motor on it and go, thanks guys
