1986 evinrude 225 powerhead?
Hello everyone, I am new here and have searched for info on this subject with no success. I have a 1986 Evinrude 225 model # E225TLCD and need power head options. I have found a reman from Crowley Marine for about $30000.00 with a one year warranty versus doing it myself for about the same price. Here are my questions. Is Crowley a good choice, are there other options for me, or can someone else here help out? In case you are wondering what happened to mine, two of the cylinders have seized up previously with one piston broke and possible damage to the other. Thank you.

That price seems pretty steep for a re-manufatured powerhead. You can buy a whole 225 in good running shape for 3 grand. Your 86 is a 2.7 liter model but any of the powerheads form 86-2000 will work for your motor.

Try contacting racer through a private message. I bet he could do better.

you can have it rebuilt for that easily enough. probably less. OMC stuff is cheap compared to the mercs.

Check the fine print in the warranty information Crowley offers, and make sure it isn't draconian like some of them are.

I also found Chris Carson's Marine Service in Key Largo
http://www.chriscarsonmarine.com/index.htm
and for $2800.00 he will rebuild the carbs. He will also perform some light porting, his fiberglass reeds, and a modification to the intake port(s) on the port side for an adittional charge while he has it. He say he builds them "tight" and gives a 3 year warranty on his work provided you follow the break in proceedure. Again... just trying to make the right decission. You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hand!
