Prop recommendation
Boat:
26' open bow cat
twin 300x
big stereo
5 batteries in billet boxes in the "trunk"
3 large amps in the "trunk"
Currently running 30 - 4 blade Merc labbed clevers
Lower is 1.62
Problem:
Boat is slow to roll over
I was with a friend this weekend, he knows outboards and knows a guy to talke to. His friend said that my boat should have 30 labbed Bravos, vented. That would get it to roll over better and eliminate some of the hop/porpose. FYI, this specific model is know to porpose so that's a problem inherent with the boat.
What do you recommend?
Thanks

Running a 28 4 blade labed clever with 3 adults and full of fuel Brad Schoenwald (Tres Martin's class) hit 90 and couldn't squeeze more out of it. Boat also has low water pick ups and I was told I should raise the motors a hole. That should help roll it over and increase the top end.
I bought the boat and it had 97 on the tattle tale so I know it will run faster than the 90, and I'm not overly concerned about top end, I just want it to roll over with 4 adults in the boat without having to have some sit in the bow.

what was the rpm at 90. moving the motor up a hole might give enough to break the props loose to get on plane quicker. If it is a real dog coming out of the hole.
will the 28's hit the rev limiters? and are your props turning in or out?
28's with a 10% slip at 6800 is 100.16 so 97 is not a far stretch

Id say you friend is right about the Bravos as the best all round prop for your boat ,they will still be way fast for social use. As Tauge says lets know rpm vs speed so pitch can be put in a ball park.

Props turn in.
Two scenarios.
First was tattle tale at 97. I have no idea what the conditions were or where the motors were set. I bought the boat and that's what was on it. I suspect using 30s, light fuel, motors set high, probably light load in cool weather.
Second scenario.
Brad Schoenwald driving with 3 adults and full of fuel running 28s, motors were lowered a hole. I don't believe we were hitting the rev limiter, but 90 was the best Brad could get out of it.
It's been suggested by someone else to raise the motors back up a hole. I'm going to do that and I think I'll try the labbed Bravo 30s with vent holes. Just wondering if 32s will be too aggressive and not help me roll over. I'm not looking to post big speed numbers and usually run the boat in the 70-80 range.Last edited by Chipster27; 05-04-2009 at 04:37 PM.
