What would be a good choice of carberator for a 455 olds jet boat?
Hello!,
I am going to be needing dual carbs for a Biesmeyer Jet boat, I am hoping you guys can lead me to the some of the better brands out there and size.
Thanks in advance!

Holleys
Boy you weren't kidding at $870 a piece!!
The Edelbrocks 600's I was looking at were about $260 $280 a piece, would the performance increase justify such a increase in price??
Thanks for your help, that Holley is one sexy carb....

you better have enough cam, heads that flow enough, and headers or all those gee whiz carbs will actually hurt performance. remember, it all must work together or you will not be happy with your results.

Good advice
I am suppose to be getting the parts list for when the engine was rebuilt, I will make sure to match the carbs to the motor, thanks for that bit of advice!

390's or 450's if you have to have holleys. Edelbrocks work fine and a pair of 500's will work nice and save you a lot of $$ Personally I'd **** can the dual carb manifold and use an Edelbrock Performer RPM and a single 850 something or other.

500 edelbrocks
I see the 500 are for smaller cubic inch engines, I would assume since there are two it makes it adequate, can you explain why the two carb manifold would be undesirable?
I appreciate your answers, as stated this is a new venture for me and I am thoroughly enjoying learning all aspects of this hobby, thank you...

hey
if u want it to haul ass use the holley's,u can never over carburate an engine,it jus has to be dial'd in thats all...the edlebrocks are good but jus cant hold a candle next to the holleys...if the motor is stock use the edlebrocks,if its dun up a bit, good exhaust, cam shaft, etc use the holleys...or put a single carb set up wit a 950 hp on it..the dual carb set up is nice lookn but can be tricky to set up the linkages if your not familiar with that...single set up will probably make better power anyway jus for the fact of that dual carb intake u have is antiquated...get an edlebrock rpm and a 950hp and it will run...jus my 2 sents,,,

Your dual quad intake while visually attractive is pretty dark ages technology wise. One carb that runs as good or better than two is always better. Reason being there is one less item to have issues with and it is much easier to tune. Edelbrocks Performer RPM manifold is excellent with jet boat engines and a 850-950 Holley/Barry Grant/Demon is all your motor is going to need. Your not going to make super huge HP and RPM numbers with the log manifolds and a hydraulic cam.
As far as over carbing an engine, the chicks in you back seat really do not like when you have to throw them screaming into the lake with their hair on fire, because your drippy ass 1150 dominator barfed out a holocaust mushroom cloud of flame from the scoop into the back seat when you stood on the gas. Yes I have seen it. More than once.

My hope is to get this boat running as economically as possible for this summer and then start improvements in the winter months, so If I stayed with the dual carbs I have a couple setups I am looking at online, if I could show them to you and hear your comments it would be appreciated.
First picture - holley 660 carbs carburetor dual center squirter(what the ad shows) $350.00
Second - Holley 600cfm 2x4 carburetors, these carbs feature- No choke, Bright Zinc Finish, Quick change vaccum secondaries, single pump action, square flange mounting and more.. $425.00
third - HOLLEY 450 CARBS CARB $350.00
Thanks.

it's much cheaper, easier, and smarter to go to a single Performer RPM and a BG 750.. and be done with it....
your in seriously uncharted waters..
you'll thank me later..

Cam and rpm
That is something I do not have the information for, I am suppose to receive the documents from the rebuild but he is having trouble locating, if I am unsuccessful what our my options for determining these questions? or do I just assume it is stock? I was told that if I purchased to big of carbs that you can tone them down by changing some internals, is this true? Hell by the time I am done with this I will be a pro too!! lol!
Thanks
