Spots on Gel Coat
Hello All,
My '79 blue metalflake Checkmate mate looks great except that over the last month little chalky looking white water spots have shown up on the gelcoat. At first I thought it was salt from the salt water and I tried just washing it with dishsoap and a sponge. When it is wet it looks fabulous, but when it dries the spots come back. Any ideas on some stuff I can use to get this stuff off?
Thanks,

i was told to use "sno-bowl" toilet cleaner and i tried it in a small spot first and it worked great so maybe it will work for you
but be sure it's a water stain of some sort and not the gel fading, if fading is the case the sno-bowl wont help much
just give it a test in a small spot and see whatcha get

Theres a whole lotta ways of getting rid of it. Its the calcium or other solids in the water. Thats why getting it wet makes it go away but when it dries its still there. There are bathroom cleaners that are fiberglass safe.
I think the wonder chemical- vinegar is supposed to work too.
Most of the stuff like lime off/away and the bathroom cleaners use an acid, I think its phosphorus acid whatever, it says on the bottle. Its the acid in these that gets rid of it. there are other milder ways too.
Most waxes are cleaner waxes- they have abrasives in them so they work too.
Its all a degree in how much work it takes.'90 STV

3M Finish Restorer
Look for it at Wal-Mart. Right next to the 3M Liquid Rubbing Compound.
