optimax's power
Are there any changes in optimax's power through the years?
Is for example optimax 200 the same power from the past till today?

Not sure on the 200, but 2006 and newer are quieter and cleaner...the 150 dropped almost 20hp in 2006, so call Mercury Racing and ask them, thats what I do when I have these questions....Brannon

dude everyone knows that to be competitive for the 2006 EPA restrictions that MERCURY had to CLEAN up the Optimax, I personally would buy a 2005 150 over a 2006 newer, they are WEAK.....not on regular boats, but any type of performance hull you will see the ass end of your buddys 150 HPDI or god should I type this 150 E-TEC, its been proven on many of Bass Boat Posts, but what do I know....seriously call Jeremy at Merc Racing, they will be honest, like they were with me....ask what years are the best for the HP your looking for.....SIMPLE

legally NO there is no difference being that all engines must comply within a +/-10% rule.. however that on a 200 can be a 40 HP spread.... from 180 to 220.. however it is my observation that in the 3.0L opti range that the real "power difference" between a 225 and a 200 of identical year is that the 200's run weak, and on a given hull dont make up the added weight on the big end over a EFI 2.5L but have more torque in the midrange where the 225's and 250's seem to be on the upper end of the spectrum...
and honestly if your loooking at the optis, the PRO XS versions get better fuel economy and more HP and TQ throuought their RPM than the std counterpart engines, as an example a 225 std on a 1900 pro lund sees about 4.8 mpg, and that same lund with a 225 pro sees almost 5.5MPG at cruise and is 3 mph faster on top 57.8 vs 54.3. the higher pressure injection, and more radical ECM and porting changes IMO make the "performance" enines a better product for the average person...Last edited by 150aintenuff; 02-17-2009 at 12:37 PM.
