20ft sleekcraft ?'s

i am a newb from the word go but i am very mechanically inclined. have had many drag and street cars so i thought i would try playing with a boat. got a 78 sleek from a guy with a rebuilt 350. he also gave me a bravo1 for it. boat been sitting for 8 years.
question is i figured out there are exhaust bellows in the lower unit which i am assuming is how the engine gets water. how do i no if those need to be replaced? and can u run exhaust throught the hull instead of the lower unit?
thats all i will bother you with for now but any help would be great!

Take some pics of the engine compartment,there are alot of guys on here who can help you do the right thing without breaking the bank.After you post them someone who knows will answer you.If you have trouble posting the pics someone will also help you with that. Mine go through the transom.Good Luck!
