    Trailer Bunks

Anyone ever try vinyl decking for trailer bunks? I know they would have to be mounted on regular pressure treated wood but it is nice and slick and alot cheeper than sliders.

IMO, I would use carpet over (CCA) pressure treated. Vinyl decking will probably scratch the glass real good

Yeah, I wouldn't use those plastic bunk covers either. I think carpet is still best

Carpet for sure. Just keep the bunks clean. I've seen a guy with a white baja and sand soaked bunks and 2 skid marks on the bottom of his hull near the bow.

for aluminum boats you cant beat durra wood decking its made from old milk cartons but for glass i stay carpet over either trex and a piece of 3" channel for strength OR over PT douglas fir

the real problem with trex or durawood style decking is when its wet OMG its slick... seen SEVERAL boats sitting on the boat ramp because someone either forgot or BORKE their winch line... any roughness in the board will scratch glass however... that is where a nice 40 OZ carpet helps and doesnt scratch

4-16-2014. 25 years old today... the fishin boat doesnt look to bad for a classic does she

things that were are no longer as they are today...

    Hey

Thanks Guys. I just built pressure treated bunks with carpet and I was looking at the plastic sliders they use. Just wondered if vinyl lumber would work. I'll get it wet soon and see how hard it is to crank her up.

Mike, When you go with bunks you give up the easy crank up option. You will just need to dunk the trailer a little more than usual.
IMPO, Forget about adding anything plastic to the bunks
Bunks are the only way to cradle the boat properly.

    Hey

Thanks Guys I had rollers on the trailer and knew it wasnt good for the bottom. Now that I have the notch and my hull is repaired I switched to bunks. Just trying to get the trailer right. Now I need fenders. Never ends.
